Fine Imported Majolica (Maiolica) Italian PotteryMajolica (also known as "Maiolica") is a twice fired earthenware made of a very fine, extremely durable red clay from the Mediterranean area. The Majolica manufacturing process is unique. After the first firing, glazes (first white creating a "canvas", then colored decorations) are applied by hand and then fired again at 1820 degrees Fahrenheit. Most Majolica patterns are of classic origins, sometimes dating back to the Renaissance. |
Since all these products are hand made, there will be no two products exactly alike. There may be slight variations in size or color, looseness in lids, or slight paint smudges. Maiolica may also "craze" (form tiny lines) with repeated use. All dinnerware has been tested and meets FDA regulations. |
