Ferdinand Hédiard was scarcely thirteen when he announced to his parents that he wanted to enroll as a Compagnon du Tour de France. He did not long remain an apprentice: during his travels, he happened to spot a cargo of exotic fruit in the port of Toulon. The use of these rare fruits in various products would become his specialty.
In 1850, Ferdinand opened his first shop. Four years later he relocated to 21 Place de la Madeleine, a small shop in the heart of a bustling square. It is here that many cosmopolitan and noteworthy figures have shopped including maharajas, kings, princes and Hollywood stars. The flagship store still remains at this address, while the company has grown to overseas distribution.
